What Is Endometriosis?

Endometriosis occurs when the tissue lining the inside of your uterus appears on the outside of your uterus. This phenomenon can have several causes but is most often caused by retrograde menstruation or hormonal issues. Retrograde menstruation happens when the menstrual blood containing endometrial cells flows back through the fallopian tubes and into the pelvic cavity. Once the blood flows back, the endometrial cells stick to the pelvic walls and surfaces of pelvic organs. Over time, these cells grow, thicken, and bleed, making menstrual symptoms more severe.

Is Endometriosis a Serious Concern?

The main problems associated with this condition are pelvic pain and heavy periods. Along with these immediate concerns, this problem can also lower your fertility rate. Studies show that roughly one-third of women with this condition have a difficult time conceiving. Moreover, women who have this problem may be at a greater risk of developing uterine and ovarian cancer in their lifetime. For these reasons, it is essential to diagnose and treat this condition early. If you are experiencing symptoms suspicious for endometriosis, we welcome you to get in touch with our Bridgewater center today.

What Can We Do About Endometriosis?

At Horizons Health & Wellness, we offer a variety of treatments for endometriosis, including the new and unique cutting edge treatment called the SoLá Pelvic Pain Therapy system. This device is a gentle, non-invasive option designed to ease pelvic muscle spasms and other causes of pelvic pain, such as endometriosis. Treatments with this device take as little as 2-4 minutes and can, over the course of 3-4 weeks, provide you with significant long-lasting pain relief. Our SoLá Therapy relaxes your pelvic muscles, eases harmful inflammation, and reduces nerve pain. This treatment can be combined with other treatments such as hormones, herbs, vitamins, supplements, medications, procedures, and, for difficult cases, surgery.
